AI in Funeral Service:
Balancing Innovation with Compassion

Artificial intelligence is increasingly present in funeral service, from obituary writing and automation tools to livestreaming enhancements and predictive systems. This session examines how AI is being used in the profession, the ethical considerations it raises, and how funeral professionals can thoughtfully integrate technology while preserving compassion and professional standards. Participants leave with practical insight into balancing innovation with responsibility.

Compliance with Compassion

Regulatory compliance, including FTC Funeral Rule requirements, is essential to professional practice. This session explores how funeral professionals can uphold legal and ethical standards while maintaining empathy, clarity, and transparency in their communication with families. Through practical examples and real-world scenarios, participants examine how to integrate compliance into everyday practice with confidence and integrity.

Conflict & Difficult Situations in Funeral Service

Conflict in funeral service most often emerges between coworkers, between the funeral home and the families being served, and between funeral professionals and the professional partners they work with every day. This session explores how to manage those situations with clarity and professionalism — strengthening internal expectations, responding to families with confidence, and maintaining composure and credibility when working alongside nurses, physicians, medical examiners, vital records offices, clergy, and other professional partners. The emphasis is on consistency, professionalism, and clear standards in difficult conversations.

Supporting Ceremony Conversations with Families

Families often approach arrangements uncertain about the value or purpose of ceremony. Time pressures, financial concerns, and cultural shifts can make these conversations challenging. This session equips funeral professionals with practical language and strategies to guide families toward meaningful decisions without pressure or manipulation, strengthening trust and reinforcing the value of intentional ceremony.

When Everything Feels Urgent: Prioritization and Delegation in Funeral Service

This session examines how funeral professionals can clarify priorities, distinguish urgency from importance, and strengthen delegation within the team. When multiple responsibilities converge at once, it becomes easy to default to doing everything personally rather than trusting others. Participants explore practical approaches to setting expectations, communicating clearly, and building shared accountability so that work is distributed appropriately and standards are maintained. The focus is on operational clarity that supports both professional confidence and consistent service to families.

Curriculum Development

In addition to conference presentations, Martha develops structured curriculum for funeral service organizations and educational programs. Curriculum engagements are customized and developed in collaboration with the hosting organization.
